Tripwire, Inc., an auditing software and services provider, recently unveiled Tripwire Enterprise 5.1 with expanded server platform support and additional network devices. Storix Releases System Backup Administrator 5.2

Storix announced the release of System Backup Administrator (SBA) Version 5.2, a Linux and AIX backup and disaster recovery software solution. According to the company, Storix SBA provides centralized management of system level and data backup for one system or the entire network and includes recovery capabilities. Storix SBA v5.2 also includes optional 128/192/256-bit Backup Data Encryption and backup/restore features for Microsoft Windows and MAC OS X systems.

Storix SBA provides an Installation/Recovery Interface, which allows users to recover an existing system or reconfigure the OS to operate on a different hardware configuration, while supporting LVM, software RAID, and various filesystem types. The Installation/Recovery Interface can also be used to migrate a healthy system to a new hardware configuration or to provision new systems.

Symantec Announces Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5

Symantec Corp. announced Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5, an intrusion prevention solution for desktops and servers on Windows, Unix, and Linux platforms. According to the company, Symantec Critical System Protection defends against day-zero attacks, maintains system compliance, and protects applications and the operating system on clients and servers by enforcing behavior-based security policies.

The company says that Symantec Critical System Protection safeguards applications and operating systems without the need for updates when deployed alongside Symantec Client Security or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. Buffer overflow and memory-based attack protection provide added defense against attacks, and a firewall monitors network traffic with the ability to block inbound and outbound connections by port, protocol, and IP address range.

The management console can be configured to deliver automatic notification alerts, and the product also provides out-of-the-box configurable security policies for applications and operating system functions.

Third Brigade Deep Security 3, a Host Intrusion Prevention (HIP) product targeted at government, healthcare, financial services, higher education, and other enterprises, was recently released. According to the company, Third Brigade Deep Security helps organizations maintain control over IT assets by defending against a range of Internet attacks while also ensuring compliance and business continuity.

Two main components, the Manager and Agent, comprise Third Brigade Deep Security. The company describes the Manager as "a role-based central management platform with a compact rule set that allows administrators to enforce security policies across Windows, Linux, and other hosts in large IT environments", while the Agent is a "small footprint software component that combines a stateful firewall and deep packet inspection". The stateful firewall reduces the attack surface of hosts by controlling network access to intended services.

Heroix Introduces Longitude

Heroix Corporation announced Longitude, an agentless, multiplatform operating system and application monitoring and reporting product. The company says that Longitude is unique because it requires little to no configuration and can be up and running in the production environment within minutes. In addition to Longitude's quick deployment and monitoring of Windows, Linux, and Unix platforms, the product also includes event displays, graphical dashboard views, and performance reports and graphs.

Pre-packaged monitoring solutions are provided for Windows XP, Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Apache Web Server, Oracle, MS SQL, Exchange, and Windows Servers, and others.

GroundWork Monitor Architect for Nagios Unveiled

GroundWork Open Source Solutions, Inc., an open source IT management solutions provider, announced GroundWork Monitor Architect (Monarch), a free, open source configuration tool for the deployment of Nagios, a popular open source monitoring tool. The company also announced GroundWork Monitor, an IT management solution based on Nagios.

SGI Offers Lower-Priced Server and Storage Products

Silicon Graphics has released new lower-priced rackmounted servers and storage systems. According to the company, the new SGI Altix 330 leverages the same high-bandwidth SGI NUMAflex shared-memory architecture, NUMAlink interconnect (6.4 GB/s bi-directional), and high-availability data management capabilities as the Altix systems that power SGI's record-setting supercomputers. Entry priced under $7,000 (U.S. list), the SGI Altix 330 server fits into a compact 1U (1.75"), high-density chassis.

SGI Altix 330 systems can be equipped with one or two Intel Itanium 2 processors running at 1.3 GHz to 1.6 GHz, on-chip cache ranging from 3 MB to 6 MB, up to 16 GB of system memory. The Altix 330 has the capability of scaling up to 16 processors with NUMAlink and up to 128 GB of memory. The Altix 330 also offers users the flexibility of running Novell's SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux implementations.

SGI's InfiniteStorage S330 disk array is targeted to small- to medium-scale workgroup environments. According to the company, the S330 offers superior performance, data protection, and availability in an easily scalable package and is priced for a workgroup with an entry point of $12,599 -- less than half the price of previous SGI storage offerings. The S330 can sustain data transfer rates of up to 485MB/second for bandwidth-intensive applications and allows users to store and manage from 2.8 TB to 16 TB of data in direct-attached storage (DAS), NAS, and SAN configurations.

Promise Technology Launches First Accelerated iSCSI to High-Speed SATA Storage Systems

Promise Technology, Inc. has announced six new 3 Gb per second (3Gb/s) Serial ATA (SATA) RAID storage systems for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). According to the company, the Promise VTrak M-Class delivers resilient, advanced data protection features that proactively monitor drive status and dramatically reduce RAID rebuild time to help ensure uninterrupted data availability.

The Promise VTrak M-Class systems offer dual host ports and 8-, 12-, or 15 hot-swappable drive bays in a rackmount chassis, supporting up to 7.5 TB with 15 drives. Texas Memory Systems Introduces 4-Gb, Half-A-Million I/O Per Second, Solid State Storage System

Texas Memory Systems has announced the availability of the RamSan-400 -- the industry's first solid state disk with 4-Gb Fibre Channel interfaces. Senforce Technologies Releases SWIS Security Solution

Senforce Technologies Inc. announced a security solution that protects systems across existing Wi-Fi standards and the forthcoming 802.11n standard.
